My approach to therapy is client-focused, strengths-based, relational and systemic. My training has prepared me to evaluate and assess the relationships an individual or individuals have with their families, friends, co-workers, partners, and especially with themselves. This approach allows me the opportunity to work with a wide range of presenting problems with any client who is committed to healing and introspection and who desires a more fulfilling life that is truly of their own making.
My Background:
After earning my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I completed my Master of Science degree at Northern Illinois University in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have had the pleasure of working with an eclectic population, including adult and adolescent individuals, couples, children and families. My clients have come from various cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and life stages. I enjoy working with both heterosexual and LGBTQ+ clients as well.
My clients seek to improve their lives in several ways and that often involves the following: better managing their mental health diagnosis and anxiety related to relationships, handling transitional, occupational and academic stress, and building a better relationship with themselves. I also work with couples in all stages of a relationship, including those who struggle with communication, lack of trust, infidelity, difference of personalities and difference in parenting styles. Premarital couples see me to reinforce the strength of their relationship, overcome communication hurdles, learn to compromise, and prepare for the next stages of their relationship. Families that seek therapy want to work on relationships between children and parents, repairing relationships within the family, identifying and setting boundaries within the family system, and relationship transitions between adult children and their parents.
About Me:
I value empathy, respect, introspection, trust and understanding. I am passionate about therapy and helping my clients reach their goals and becoming the healthiest versions of
themselves. Helping the client develop insight into themselves is an essential step in identifying goals for therapy. I enjoy forming honest, encouraging, trusting and respectful relationships with my clients. Being warm, empathic, inquisitive, and giving value to someone’s experience goes a long way in building a strong relationship. Additionally, I am an advocate of
diligence and the application of what we do in therapy. My therapeutic approach reflects my personality as a lighthearted and emotion-focused individual who values the relationships I have with myself and the others around me.
In my personal life, I love to indulge in all kinds of media: music, movies, TV and books.
I am a huge sports fan and enjoy exercising and being outdoors (when the weather permits). I also love to cook and experiment with different cuisines and recipes.

What would your life be like if you woke up tomorrow and everything was just how you wanted it to be? What would be different?
Therapy can help you identify your goals and empower you to make the changes that will lead you to where you want to be, whether individually, with your partner, or with family.
Clinical Expertise:
I believe that a solid therapeutic relationship based on trust and authenticity is more important than any individual therapeutic approach and is essential to your ability to feel understood and move toward reaching your goals. With that understanding, we will work in collaboration to create a personalized approach to best fit your needs, incorporating aspects of various techniques, including but not limited to:
• Play Therapy
• Humanistic Therapy
• Exposure Therapy
• CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
• DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)
• SFT (Solution Focused Therapy)
• ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)
Throughout the therapy process, we will focus on building upon your strengths, resilience, personal growth, and self-esteem, as well as learning to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking and developing tools to reframe those thoughts and shift to healthier perspectives.
About me:
I appreciate each person’s uniqueness and story and feel privileged to be a part of it. I genuinely believe that every person can overcome challenges and achieve their goals. With the increasing pace, overstimulation, and demands of the world around us, my goal is to normalize your therapeutic experience and provide a safe place to feel heard and understood without judgment while supporting your journey, whether self-discovery, recovery, or developing skills to achieve your objectives.
My passion for working with children, teens, families, and parents became apparent while working with young children in a learning environment. I often utilize play therapy in addition to behavioral techniques to engage young clients in a safe atmosphere while assisting parents and families with communication, boundary-setting, developmental transitions, and setting expectations.
As a couples therapist, I recognize that each couple is unique and honor those differences by helping them explore their family systems, relationship roles and expectations, co-parenting challenges, and providing tools for improved communication, conflict management, and development of a shared understanding.
Beyond business hours, I love a good DIY project (which can be distinguished as good when it takes twice as long as planned), exercising, volunteering at our church, and engaging in organized chaos with my husband, daughters, and canine kiddos.

What does a session with me look like? I believe in working with my clients as a team, and my style is collaborative, transparent, warm, and down-to-earth–as well as pragmatic. We will:
- Explore what is happening in your life at all levels–cognitive, emotional, physiological, behavioral, relational, and systemic;

- Regularly check in about what you feel is and isn’t working in therapy to keep you at the forefront of your treatment.
Whether you’re interested in what our work will look like or simply want to know you’re in good hands, I hope that this helps demystify the therapeutic process and gives you an idea of what to expect when you come in.
My Background
My journey to becoming a couple and family therapist has been perhaps a bit atypical. I received my bachelor’s degree in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies from The College of William & Mary, where I was heavily involved in cultural theory and research. Upon graduating from W & M, I worked in retail management for several years before beginning my clinical studies in Virginia Tech’s Marriage & Family Therapy program. I can thank both of these experiences for enriching my psychotherapeutic practice in ways I never could have imagined at the time.
I earned my MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech and have worked in both agency and private practice settings at The Center for Family Services (Falls Church, VA) and Group Therapy Associates (Haymarket, VA).
When I’m not working, I love spending time with the family and friends who are the center of my world. I love sewing, yoga and pilates, meditation, cuddling the family dogs, and playing Pokemon with my step-children.

My Background
Before becoming a therapist, I spent time living and working in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Berlin, Germany; and Southern China, doing everything from campaign strategy to investigative journalism and speechwriting for a U.S. Ambassador. I spent six months in Buddhist temples, meditating, photographing monks, and leading meditation retreats. My eclectic experiences give me unique and unorthodox insights when helping my clients.
Curiosity has always been my core guiding value. After seeing the positive impact of therapy on my own life, I left my career as an investigative reporter behind and earned my MSSW at the University of Texas at Austin.
My work experience in the mental health field includes counseling with senior adults, adults in an in-patient psychiatric hospital, and members of the Jewish community. Since graduating, I’ve co-authored a therapy manual with a former professor for the American Psychological Association, and I’m currently writing a second book for the Oxford University Press.
I enjoy trail running with my pup Ruby, skiing (when there’s enough snow!), weight-lifting, photography, and good conversation with friends while cooking dinner or sitting by a campfire.

Life’s struggles can be overwhelming. In the overwhelm, we lose perspective and see the world through tunnel vision. Before long, we’re often lost in our maladaptive patterns. This can look like spiraling into road rage on the commute home, all-encompassing emotional numbness while arguing with our partner, or simply running away from all of our problems. Without a change of perspective and intentional action, the cycle often repeats itself. My goal as a therapist is to help clients learn to ground themselves, gain perspective, and then take the necessary actions to change.
Life is hard, and these frustrations often get in the way of loving our partners. As your therapist, I will help you and your partner learn to ground with each other through mindfulness, meditation, and visualization exercises. I will guide you in defining your values and discovering meaning in the struggles you face. Rather than focusing entirely on the problems you’re facing, I will support you in finding solutions and hope.
Therapy is challenging yet soul-giving work. My innate curiosity, perceptiveness, warmth, and sense of humor all support my clients as they weather their challenges. Together, we can work not just to overcome your challenges—but to use them as stepping stones in walking toward a life of thriving and abundance.
